Beat the Heat:
6 Ayurvedic Summer Recipes

Six go-to recipes for when the heat's got you short-fused and sugar-craving, so you can feel like yourself again without overhauling how you eat.

Summer heat builds in the body whether you notice it or not.

It shows up as skin that's more reactive than usual, a shorter fuse with the people you love most, nights spent lying there overheated when you should be winding down.

That's accumulation talking, heat building on top of heat until your body starts asking you to slow down.

Once you know what's actually happening, you can work with it instead of getting burned by it, all summer long.

Meet Nina

I used to run hot. Literally and otherwise.

It took years of Ayurvedic study before I understood that what I'd always written off as just my personality was actually something happening in my body. A lot of natural fire. And summer adds fire to fire.

I learned this the hard way, skin reacting to things it never used to, a shorter fuse than I wanted with the people closest to me, lying awake overheated when my body should have been winding down.

So every summer now, I recalibrate. Just enough to notice where the heat's building before it turns into something bigger. These six recipes are part of how I do that, what I actually reach for when the heat's got me.
